Is Burnout Affecting You?

Burnout is a growing mental health problem. Do you feel as if your job is taking a toll on your health? Perhaps you feel stretched in whatever direction you turn – whether it is home or work life.
You’re a bit like a phone with only 10% of its charge remaining. Decreasing battery life being used for a host of different applications – work, domestic duties, parenting, social connections. They are all taking a piece of your decreasing resources, and soon there won’t be any power left.
How do you step off life’s carousel and detach from the drama? How do you know even where you are at, exactly? Burnout happens in stages, propelling you on a path without you even knowing it so you feel as if you have little control over your direction in life.
This is where The Burnout Ladder® comes to your aid. It is a tool to allow you to assess if you are burning out and if so, which stage – or rung – have you got to. Orienting yourself and recognising your symptoms can then help you take the right action to restore yourself and your balance.
Official definitions of burnout point to a lack of effectiveness in your job or being cynical about it. But this is not just about your job. These are impacts on you as a whole person, a human being. The effects can be debilitating, soul destroying, and have control over your entire life.
If you feel this is happening to you, the good news is that you don’t need to allow it. There are resources available to you. Even just talking to someone else about burnout (many others are suffering) can help.
