The Burnout Ladder Workshop: How to Thrive in a Chaotic Workplace

Perfect for: Teams within stressed organisations looking to offer employees tools to cope with burnout risk, improving overall mental resilience and performance.

Problems helping: Individuals who feel they are experiencing excessive stress in coping with workload and the need to have a work/life balance.
The workshop is based on the concept of The Burnout Ladder® book, published by Alan in December 2024. The structure is based on the principle that burnout happens in stages, like climbing the rungs of a ladder. At each stage there are defined symptoms for which there are also a series of tools or remedies.

Burnout may be externally driven. The result of a toxic culture or simply being overwhelmed with work. The book also discusses potential causes which are self-driven, naturally evolved human characteristics that mean we pressure ourselves into burnout. We have a negative bias in our psychology based on a leaning towards survival, we self-criticise to ensure we don’t let standards slip, we please others and lose our sense of boundaries as a desire to feel useful.

The ladder is a metaphor for the journey to burnout. We all climb ladders in life, some of which are metaphorical themselves; we are social climbers, we ascend career and property ladders. The Burnout Ladder is not one we should be climbing. The trouble is it is often too late to see that it is burning under us…
Delegates can self-diagnose if they are on the ladder where exactly they are. They can then be guided as to which solutions are available and relevant fo them as a person, as everyone is different.

Alan demonstrates actionable tools to counteract burnout, and delegates are encouraged to practice in a workshop environment. Follow up coaching is optional but recommended. A copy of the book is given to each delegate.

The Burnout Ladder® - stages of burnout – the ascending rungs of the ladder:

Rung 1 : Ignition
Rung 2 : Acceleration
Rung 3 : Neglect
Rung 4 : Cynicism
Rung 5 : Disengage
Rung 6 : Embers
Each stage is a progression on the way to burnout. Identification is not always easy. Find out where you are if you have any concerns. This workshop might just save you from emotional pain and exhaustion, and help you enjoy life once again.

The book is available on Amazon, but will also be provided as part of the workshop to each delegate. Available in paperback or e-book format:
Workshop Price: To be fixed on a quotation basis, depending on specifications and number of delegates.

Here are some Amazon reviews on the book...

This book gives some sound background on why we get into the messes we do, and more importantly how to get out of them. I will keep this in my laptop bag.

Alan provides a very practical and extremely well-written solution to this serious problem with 18 actionable tools rather than a plethora of vague strategies.

The Burnout Ladder is a well written, easy to read guide to dealing with modern day pressures of life. Definitely recommend this book.
